This week’s Library Champion is Dr. Richard Schmude.
Dr.
Schmude visits the Dorothy W. Hightower Collaborative Learning Center &
Library a minimum of one to two times a week and up to four times a week
depending on the time of year. He enjoys pulling books and reading newspapers
and magazines the library has available. He also uses the library as a quiet
study area. Schmude takes his Chemistry 1152 classes to the library for a
discussion on research for their final research paper project. He also takes
his Integrated Science class up to the second floor to show them “the unique
architecture, the holes in the walls, that helps reduce the sound. That way
students can be studying in one spot and talking in another and they will not
disturb each other.” Schmude uses the EBSCO database for research. Schmude
encourages his colleagues to check out the reference books the library has
available along with copies of the Georgia Journal of Science. He recommends
using the classroom that is available to faculty for classes at the library.
Schmude’s favorite things about the library include the papers, the online
availability and the Astronomical Almanac.
